- The Asa V. Clark Papers consists of materials documenting Clark's career as a politician and his time as a student at Washington State College (WSC). This includes photographs, documents, and a scrapbook from the 1955 United States Agricultural Delegation to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR, now Russia), of which Clark was a part and announcements for WSC reunions and Clark's induction in to the WSU Hall of Fame.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Asa V. Clark (1889-1972) was a longtime Pullman resident, a farmer, and a Washington State College alumnus from 1916. As a WSC student, Clark served as captain of the 1915 football team that made WSC's first appearance in the Rose Bowl, in which they defeated Brown University 14-0. Clark served in the State House of Representatives from 1941 to 1949 and as a State Senator from Whitman County from 1949 to 1956. Additionally, Clark served as one of twelve American farm ambassadors to the USSR in 1955. Clark Hall on the Washington State University (formerly WSC) Pullman campus was named after Asa V. Clark in 1972. Clark was also inducted to the WSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978.

This collection contains papers pertaining to Asa V. Clark's service in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1941 to 1949 and as a State Senator from Whitman County from 1949 to 1956. The collection consists largely of materials related to the 1955 United States Agricultural Delegation to the Soviet Union. There materials include photographs, travel documents, and a scrapbook filled with newspaper clippings. The collection also contains certificates of his elections to office and materials about class reunions and his induction into the Washington State University Athletic Hall of Fame.
