Historical NoteReturn to Top
The Washington State Dairy Women was originally called the Dairy Wives of Washington State and was founded in 1954 by Dr. Albert Shaw. The first three presidents were Harriet Gross, Selma Wood, and Maxine Tibeau. The main function of the Washington State Dairy Women is to promote public awareness of dairy products' nutrition through sales promotions and educational programs. The Washington State Dairy Women annually sponsor a Washington State Dairy Ambassador program (formerly Dairy Princess), which selects a young woman to serve as the official representative of the dairy industry for the state of Washington. Her duties include public demonstrations and educational programs on dairy nutrition.
