Content Description

This collection consists primarily of aerial photographs, with a small quantity of explanatory and instructional materials. The instructional / explanatory materials comprise the first series and first box, and includes aerial mosaics and indexes to the collection of 1964-1967 aerial photographs, as well as a few greater Washington state mosaic indexes. Also included in the intructional materials is a pair of stereographic lenses for viewing the maps, and two books and one folder of materials used to teach / learn use of these maps. Excepting the aerial mosaics and index maps, the materials in this small series are not WFPA/WFFA produced, and are retained primarily as aids to researchers attempting to use these maps.

Series two is the actual aerial photographs. Boxes two through six comprise the first subseries of these, which are series of aerial photographs taken from 1964 to 1967 and covering approximately the entire southeast quarter of Washington state. Box seven contains two separate subseries of maps, one from 1951 and one from 1936; unlike the 1960s maps, these do not appear to be comprehensive. It is unclear if these earlier maps were actually produced by WFPA or came from another source.

Individual maps are approximately nine inches by nine inches, and appear to cover about five miles by five miles. They were taken from an altitude of about 30,000 feet. Each set of maps is retained in their original ordering: the first sequence starts on the Washington coast at the Oregon border and moves north; the second sequence would then start again at the Oregon border immediately east of the prior sequence, and so forth. It is suggested that anyone looking for a particular location begin with the mosaics and indexes held in folders one and two in box one.
