Historical Note

Beverly Cole Daly (1878-1965) was a United States Army officer who became professor of military science and dean of men at the University of Wyoming. He was born in 1878, the fourth and youngest son of George Daly and Annie Elizabeth (Younger) Daly. In 1881 George Daly was killed by Apache Indians. Beverly C. Daly joined the United States Army in 1898 and fought in the Philippine American War. He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1901 and as a 1st lieutenant in 1905. He was stationed on the island of Alcatraz between 1903 and 1904 but returned to the Philippines in 1905. While stationed at Fort McKinley near Manila in 1907, his health broke down. Daly retired from active service in 1910 and in 1911 was detailed to the University of Wyoming as professor of military science and tactics and commandant of cadets. He was promoted to captain in 1917 and to major in 1922. He retired from the army in 1932 but continued at the University as dean of men until 1946.
