Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Carol Friend Goodrich was born June 27, 1900 in Minnesota, but moved at an early age with her parents to the Spokane area.
She attended the State College of Washington in 1921-1924 and graduated with a B.A. in Economic Science and History in 1924, alongside her younger brother Laurence. She received a state Normal Diploma at that time, qualifying her as a teacher. She received a Life Diploma in 1927, allowing her to be both a teacher and superintendent within the state of Washington. She returned to WSC in 1928-1930 to receive a second B.A. in Music, and then in summer 1946 to receive a Library Training certificate.
She taught school first in Odessa, from 1924-1928, and then in Kennewick from 1930-1933. After marrying William Herbert Ropte in 1933, she moved to his home in Lind, where she taught for over thirty years in the Lind school district before retiring in 1970. Carol passed away in early 1991, in Spokane.
