Historical Note

Al Miner was a resident of Laramie, Wyoming, where he was a junior high school teacher in the 1960s and 1970s. He took many photographs in the area including on the campus of the University of Wyoming. He was born in North Platte, Nebraska. After retiring from his teaching job in Laramie, he moved to a farm near Torrington, Wyoming, where he died on June 2, 2000.

Content Description

The Al Miner Photographs Collection contains photographs and negatives that he created. The photographs pertain to beauty pageant contestants in the Laramie area including University of Wyoming in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The negatives are mostly related to the University of Wyoming during the late 1950s and early 1960s. The negatives are of campus buildings, sporting events, homecoming, beauty pageants, and images of UW groups and clubs. There are also negatives of former UW president, George Duke Humphrey. A few negatives relate to the Laramie area including Laramie Jubilee Days parades from the late 1950s and 1960s, Interstate 80 construction, local groups including the Shriners and Jobs Daughters, and of the 1960 Wyoming High School Basketball Tournament. A group of negatives is labeled 1965 UW Groups, there is one negative dating from about 1930 showing a Downtown Laramie street scene, and there is one negative from 1967 Band Day at UW.
