Biographical Note

Thomas Gabriel Hitt was born in London in 1874, to parents Thomas and Sarah (Gabriel) Hitt. After graduating from Westminster School of Chemistry and Pharmacy in 1895, he worked as an apprentice to a druggist before beginning a fireworks manufacturing company in 1898. In 1899, he relocated to Victoria, British Columbia, where he established the Hitt Bros. factory and married Annie Eliza Bull in 1902. The couple had four children: Raymond Christopher, Wilmot James, Dorothy Gabriel, and Marion Priestly.
