Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Irv Thomas was born in April 14, 1927 in California and grew up during the Great Depression and wartime years mainly in San Francisco. After working on computer programming on the big IBM machines that constituted the earliest wave of automation he become a writer. He wrote and distributed the serial publication Black Bart Brigade which explored the theme of defying a system in which conformity was the dominant mode. He became an avid and life-long hitch-hiker which served as his greatest source of inspiration. After settling in Seattle he returned to college in his sixties, studied at Shoreline Community College, and completed his bachelor's degree from the University of Washington. As a student he wrote a column for the University of Washington Daily. In later years he wrote the serials The Yin Times of Black Bart and Ripening Seasons and completed three self-published books: Innocence Abroad, Derelict Days, and A Seasoned Life: Spring.
