Summary
George A. Porter graduated in 1957 from the University of Oregon Medical School, was a Cardiology Fellow and Nephrology Fellow before becoming Professor Emeritus in the School of Medicine Nephrology Department at OHSU. His collection is composed of 83 slides with the common subject matter being historical images from the University of Oregon Medical School at 23rd and Lovejoy, the Marquam Hill Campus and of Howard P. Lewis, Chairman of Medicine at the University of Oregon Medical School from 1946-1971.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

George A. Porter received a BS in 1953 from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. In 1957 he graduated from the University of Oregon Medical School with an MS and MD. He served his residency at University of Oregon Medical School from 1958- 1960. He was a Fellow in Cardiology at UOMS in 1960 - 62 and a Nephrology Fellow at the Cardiovascular Research Institute, University of California Medical School, San Francisco, California in 1962-1964. He is Professor Emeritus in the School of Medicine in the Department of Nephrology at OHSU. He is former chairman of the Department of Medicine and was the first chief of the Division of Nephrology, Hypertension and Clinical Pharmacology at OHSU. His research interests are the use of urinary biomarkers to identify toxic injury to the kidneys and the value of serum biomarkers in chronic renal failure patients. In 1997, he was the recipient of the International Society of Nephrology's E. G. Bywaters Award for his life long contributions to the field of acute renal failure. He is a co-investigator of the National Analgesic Nephropathy study funded by NIH in 1999.
