Historical Background
Originally there were no motels or easy lodgings for the traveler as the automobile became a method for vacationing. Autocamping, traveling with car, tent, and portable, home-like furnishings for cooking and sleeping, became a very activity in the 1920s. The cars had tents that attached to it, and platforms that fit inside the car for sleeping.
Content Description
Album of photographs of vacation trips taken by a couple from Seattle traveling around Washington and on the Columbia River Highway in Oregon. It includes scenes of early car camping, cabin at the beach (somewhere probably on the Olympic Penninsula), scenes on the old highway along the Columbia River Gorge, Indian teepees at Pendleton, Oregon, Mt. Rainier, at big tree (with opening for cars) at Snohomish, car tent camping at Moclips and with a dog sled team on Mt. Rainier.
