Historical NoteReturn to Top
Stanley Paul Young (1889-1969) was born in Astoria, Oregon, and educated at the University of Oregon, where he received a degree in mining engineering, in 1911. He later earned a masters in Biology. He would go on to hold numerous positions in the federal government, including the Department of the Interior.
His first assignment was in 1927, as Assistant Head of the Division of Predatory Animal and Rodent Control. In 1939, he served as the senior biologist in the Branch of Wildlife Research. In 1957, he served as Director of the Bird and Mammal Laboratories until his retirement on October 31, 1959.
He wrote articles for magazines and journals. He was also an author of books, largely about America's wolves, coyotes, and big cats, and many of these books were for young audiences.
