Historical Note
Rick Reese grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he spent countless hours climbing with friends in the Wasatch Mountains. He was a climbing ranger in Grand Teton National Park in the 1960s, was director of Community Relations at the University of Utah, director of the Yellowstone Institute, and founded the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. He is currently co-chair of the Bonneville Shoreline preservation group.
Content Description
The Rick Reese papers contain a letter from Rick Reese to Jack Newell in which he writes his memories of mountain climbing and details climbs he went on, who was with him and how the sport has changed through the years. The collection also contains news clippings of rescues in the Grand Tetons, materials regarding Ted Wilson and Roland Wyatt, his years in Montana and Alpenbock Climbing Club items.
