Historical Note

Michel Michelet (1894-1995) was a Russian born musical composer who wrote and arranged musical scores for several motion pictures including “The Chase”, “The Man on the Eiffel Tower”, and “Outpost in Morocco.” In 1946, he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture for his scores for both “The Hairy Ape” and “A Voice in the Wind.” Other names used by Michelet include: Michel Levine, Michael Lévine, and Michael Michelet.

This collection primarily consists of sheet music for music and film scores composed or arranged by Michelet and, to a lesser extent, sheet music written by other composers. The collection also contains audio and visual recordings of Michelet’s music being performed, correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, concert programs, and articles about Michelet.
