Biographical Note

JoAnn Taricani (1953-2022) was the School of Music director and music history professor at the University of Washington. She arrived at the UW in 1988. Taricani received her M.A. in 1979 and Ph.D. in 1986 from the University of Pennsylvania.

During her time at UW she was associated with various committees including the UW Medical Board, Academic Advisory Committee on Facilities, and numerous others. Taricani was known for her invaluable contributions to these committees and tireless efforts to improve UW.

Taricani briefly worked as the Special Consultant to the President of the University of Michigan in the early 2000s.

Taricani's research interests were vast, she contributed to a better understanding of numerous musical pieces, these include the eighteenth-century English opera Dragon of Wantley. She was also known for directing live historical music concerts after conducting meticulous research.

One of her invaluable research contribution was to UW Emeritus English Professor Thomas Lockwood's three-volume edition of plays by British author Henry Fielding. Taricani researched the ballads that had been included in Fielding's works.
