Historical NoteReturn to Top
The Pullman Herald began publication on November 3, 1888, published by Pullman lawyer Thomas Neill. The newspaper remained a weekly publication for the entirety of its life, until its final issue was published on Feb. 4, 1988.
Circa the 1930s, Washington State University (then College) undertook a project through which a subject index of the early years (1888-1929) of the Pullman city newspaper, the Herald, was created onto 3x5 cards. That index was transferred to a digital format in the 1990s, under the supervision of WSU librarian Lou Vyhnanek.
Bound volumes of the Pullman Herald, held at the WSU Libraries, were used to make this index, then later used for microfilming, and then that microfilm was subsequently used for digitizing. At some point between indexing and microfilming, the only known 1892 volume disappeared, and so this index is probably the best information on the content of the Pullman Herald in that year.
