The Cora Ball Scrapbook and Photograph Album feature clippings, newsletters, and other ephemera from Ball's middle and high school years in Harlowton, Montana, as well as photos of Ball’s later career and colleagues at the telephone office in Conrad, Montana. Other photos from her travels to Glacier National Park and Alberta, Canada, and snapshots of her family and friends in the late 1920s and early 1930s are also included.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Cora Almira Ball was born on June 20, 1905 in Miner, South Dakota to Mark and Anna Ball. Her parents were homesteaders who later moved the family to Harlowton, Montana. Ball worked at the Mountain States Telephone Company in Conrad, Montana before her marriage to Herman Meister in 1945. She died on January 29, 1980 in Missoula, Montana.

The Cora Ball Scrapbook and Photograph Album contain clippings, newsletters, and ephemera from Ball's school years in Harlowton, Montana, as well photos of her later work and colleagues at the telephone office in Conrad, Montana. The collection also features some limited correspondence, images from Ball's travels to Glacier National Park and Alberta, Canada, and snapshots of family and friends in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Several pages in the photograph album document the Highline and Valier crews of the Montana Power Company at work in 1929 and 1930.

Arrangement

The original order of creator was maintained.

Custodial History

Charles Campbell held the photograph album until he donated it to the University of Montana in 1973. Custodial history prior to Campbell's possession of the album is unknown, as is Campbell's relationship to Cora Ball. The scrapbook was held by Bill Raoul until he donated it to the Archives in 1980. Raoul's relationship to Ball is likewise unknown.

Acquisition Information

Charles Campbell donated the photograph album on October 18, 1973. Bill Raoul donated the scrapbook in 1986.

Processing Note

Loose pages that fell out of the scrapbook were rehoused in a folder in 2023.
