- The J. D. Williams papers (1936-2007) contain materials dealing mostly with political science. Included are correspondence, diaries, news clippings, notes, writings, class notes, scrapbooks, and various materials concerning public elections, civil rights, state government, and the bicentennial of the constitution. Williams came to the University of Utah as an instructor in 1952 and served as the director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics from 1965 to 1975. He retired from teaching in 1992.

Historical NoteReturn to Top
John Daniel Williams was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on 13 January 1926. He graduated from Stanford in 1946 and received a doctorate from Harvard in 1952. J. D. Williams came to the University of Utah as an instructor that same year and became head of the Hinckley Institute of Politics in 1965. He retired from teaching in 1992. J. D. Williams ran for the United States Senate in 1968 and the Utah State House of Representatives in 1976; in each occasion he lost. He died on 3 September 2007.

Included are correspondence, news clippings, notes, writings, and various materials concerning public elections, civil rights, state government, and the bicentennial of the constitution. Original folder titles given to the materials by Williams have been, for the most part, retained.
