Biographical Note

Deirdre (Dee) Arntz is a graduate of Boston College, San Francisco State University, and the University of Washington. After graduating from college, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development before moving first to San Francisco, and then to Seattle in 1987. It was in Seattle where she began to pursue her passion for wildlife and wetlands conservation and management. In addition to her work in government and as a writer, Arntz has served as a board member of Seattle Audubon Society (including as co-founder and chair of the Society's Washington Wetlands Network), Audubon Washington, and Washington Environmental Council.

This collection contains materials that were used in the creation of Dee Arntz's 2015 book, "Extraordinary Women Conservationists of Washington: Mothers of Nature," which celebrates the many women who played a crucial role in Washington's environmental conservation successes. Materials include oral history cassettes and transcripts, articles, and publications related to conservation in Washington state, as well as "Extraordinary Women Conservationists of Washington: Mothers of Nature."
