Historical Note

The Peace Studies Program at WSU was designed to be a multi-disciplinary program drawing from philosophy, English, history, as well as social and physical sciences to study human conflict and conflict resolution. The program was designed to eventually offer both a major and a minor, though the program was soon discontinued.

This collection consists of materials related to the development of the Peace Studies Program, as well as correspondence and papers related to the search for funding opportunities for the program. Other sections of this collection contain papers and correspondence regarding other similar programs around the country, as well as from a search for guest speakers.

Donald Bishop, a retired professor of Philosophy at WSU, donated this collection to the Washington State University Libraries’ Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections (MASC) on July 31, 2001, where it was retained as UA.2001.07.
