Historical Note

The Columbia Plateau Resources Council was established in Feb. 1966 at Spokane, Washington. The purpose and objectives of this organization were to provide an organization in which all individuals groups, and agencies concerned with the land and water resources of the Columbia Plateau and component drainage basins can participate to insure the orderly development, efficient use, proper management and conservation of these resources. The area included in this organization consists of the land in the State of Idaho and that part of the States of Washington and Oregon lying east of the Cascade Range which drains into the Columbia River.

Key persons involved in the formation of the organization include Scott Barr (President of Washington State Association of SWCD's), Earl MaClellan (SWCD supervisor), Louis Madsen (Dean of College of Agriculture, WSU), Lewis Hargis (member of Idaho State ASC Committee), and Verle Kaiser (Conservation Agronomist for SCS). This collection covers the period of 1965 through 1968.
