Biographical NoteReturn to Top

In 1907, a group of 12 women in Pullman, Washington’s Sunnyside neighborhood formed a club promoting charity and neighborliness. Throughout its history, the Neighborly Neighbors maintained its mission of charity to those in need, particularly women and children, and hospitality towards members of the neighborhood by hosting weekly meetings and luncheons. On a local level, the Neighborly Neighbors hosted meals, parties, and outings for each other. When members moved away, they put together gift baskets, and regularly kept in touch. When members or close family of members passed, they held memorials and donated money to the family. The Neighborly Neighbors also made and donated food, clothes, and blankets to those in need, made layettes for new mothers in the region and, as the group gained more members, donated money to larger charities and community organizations.
