Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Chester Carroll Farr was born in Pullman, Washington, October 14, 1890. His father had been brought to Pullman at the age of three after his parents had died in Missouri. In 1893, Chester, with his family, moved to Albion where he lived until entering what was then Washington State College in 1908. After graduation in 1913 he moved to Sunnyside, Washington, to teach high school. After trying various other positions he became county agent in Coos County, Oregon where he and his wife, Iva, settled permanently. In 1921 he bought out Collier Warehouse in Coquille, Oregon, and entered into a partnership with Cecil Elwood and formed Farr & Elwood Co., Feed Merchants. He retired from this business in 1955. During the years 1940 to 1956 he and his wife made extensive travels to the East Coast, Glacier National Park, Alaska, South America, Europe, and Asia of which he wrote travelogues in the form of letters to his family and friends at home.
