Biographical Note
Chester Raymond Ham (1890-1949) was a faculty member in Business Administration at the State College of Washington for 22 years, from 1927 until his death.
Content Description
This consists of three related items. First is a six-page script titled Some Observations of Students’ Records in Relation to Smoking, created by Chester Raymond Ham, assistant professor in Business Administration at WSC and broadcast over KWSC radio on May 7, 1932. In it he reports on a survey of male WSC students and their smoking habits, which he statistically compared against their grade points.
Second in the collection is a single page of compiled summary data from his study, and the final page is a list of all his data points, which includes students’ names, smoking habits, and average grades. As the latter is protected by student privacy rules, it is preserved in a sealed envelope, and access will only be granted under very specific conditions.
