Biographical Note
Kathryn Alice Dixon Crickmer (1934-2007) was born in Pomeroy, Washington to Chester (Jack) and Doris Long Dixon where she lived and attended school through her high school graduation in 1952 before she attended the University of Washington. Her musical pursuits (organ and choir), social life, and Episcopal faith and membership in the Canterbury Club (college Episcopal youth group) took precedent over her academics. Through the Club she met John (Bud) Crickmer, an Army reserve officer, who she married in March 1956, and had two daughters with. Crickmer also served in the Korean War and Vietnam War so the family often moved because of his service both internationally and domestically, living in El Paso, Texas for almost a total of 10 years at different times. Dixon worked at Boeing, as a a church organist and choir director, a preschool teacher, a residential facility activities organizer, and as a nurse after returning to school in the late 1970s and early 1980s after a fight with throat cancer. She had intented to pursue nursing when she first attended the University of Washington. She was also involved with the Episcopal Church throughout her life and volunteer efforts pertaining to military families during the wars. She passed in 2007 from kidney failure due to complications from diabetes.
