Her husband, Louis Gladwin Kirk Jr. (1921-1992), was a National Parks ranger. After the death of Mr. Kirk in 1992, Ruth moved to Olympia, Washington. She married her friend of 40 years, Dr. Richard D. Daugherty (1922-2014), an archeologist, and moved to Panorama, a retirement community in Lacey, Washington.
