Historical Note

Mines Contracting Company was a partnership created on October 10, 1936 by Henry L.V. Day, Norman Ebbley and L.D. Barry. Apparently the only project undertaken by the Mines Contracting Company was the excavation of the Vulcan Tunnel, two miles west of Wallace, for the Callahan Zinc-Lead Company. Work on the Vulcan Tunnel began October 14, 1937 and ended February 2, 1938. Mines Contracting rented a great deal of equipment, including a locomotive, from the Golconda Lead Company. Most of the assets of Mines Contracting Company were sold after completion of the Vulcan project although not until September 21, 1943 were the remaining assets liquidated and the final profit of $65 divided between the three partners.
