Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Philip Sidney Padelford was born in Seattle, Washington in 1912. His parents were Frederick M. and Jessie Padelford. Philip Padelford attended the University of Washington as an undergraduate and graduate student. He earned a doctorate in history from Yale in 1942. He served as an officer in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Padelford was vice president and director of Wakefield Seafoods, the major company in the Alaskan King crab industry. The company was affiliated with Wakefield's Deep Sea Trawlers, Inc.

Scope and Content: Taped conversations of Philip S. Padelford with Kerry Bartels and Dianne Bridgeman; Tapes A and B were recorded on July 2, 1987 and Tape C on September 23, 1987.

Tape A: University District -- growing up; University Outing Club (Kingston, WA) Tape B: University Outing Club; Mosquito Fleet (Side two not used) Tape C: Student at the UW; early UW; growth of UW; faculty.

Consists heavily of correspondence between Padelford and his wife Fay but also includes letters from other family members to Padelford. Snapshots and appointment books are also included.
