Biographical Note
Eugene Nicholas Kovalenko was born on November 17, 1933 in Phoenix, Arizona to Ruth Clawson and Nikolai Kregg, formerly Nikolai Nikolayevich Kovalenko. Kovalenko received his BS from the University of California, Berkeley in 1960 and his Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Utah in 1964. Kovalenko worked as a research and development scientist and technological consultant for various firms throughout his career. Raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Kovalenko was excommunicated in 1966; he rejoined, and was again excommunicated in 1992, whereafter he converted to the Russian Orthodox Church.
