Historical Note

Toshiko Marian Morimoto was born on 23 April, 1918, in California. Although she attended a segregated school for children of farm workers for her elementary education, she later attended public school, graduating in 1937. Her marriage in 1939 was arranged in the traditional Japanese style. After a brief period of farming, the family was interned at Heart Mountain, Wyoming. The Morimotos returned to California after the war.
