In October 1943 Corporal Richard G. White was killed in action at Guadalcanal. Prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corps on December 8, 1941, Richard had studied Forestry at the University of Idaho. At the suggestion of Richard’s father, Frederick G. White, and with his gift of $1,000.00, the University established the School of Forestry Alumni Memorial Loan Fund in the former student’s honor.
