Historical Note

The Wyoming Territorial Prison Corporation was established in conjunction with the Territorial Park Endowment Board in the late 1980s to assist with the operations and endowment money of the Wyoming Territorial Prison historic site and park until the state took over in 2004. The corporation continued to be a part of the park’s operations in order to continue special projects that emphasized Albany County history until 2013.

In 1984 planning began for a Wyoming Territorial Prison historic park site and opened in 1990 with the help of an endowment from the University of Wyoming and other partners. The endowment not only supported park operations but numerous other historical projects for the Wyoming Territorial Prison historic site and park. When the state took over operations in 2004 they no longer supported many of the projects that made the park popular, including the Circle of Honor Courtyard and the Ranch History Project. Members of the Territorial Endowment Board and the Wyoming Territorial Prison Corporation, Connie Kercher and Ollie Hill, encouraged many of the volunteers and corporation employees to continue their research and provided support in order for these projects to continue.
