This collection consists of materials related to the Alpha Theta chapter and national organization of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU). This includes GTU handbooks, ritual guides, national and chapter constitutions, membership lists and officer reports. The majority of the collection consists of national's records and correspondence, officers' reports, constitutions, minutes of the annual national meetings, and annual newsletters. The Gamma Theta chapter records consist of membership lists and certificates, chapter constitutions, and other assorted records and correspondence, as well as the chapter charter.
Historical NoteReturn to Top
Gamma Theta Upsilon is an honorary society for geography founded in 1928. The organization became a national fraternity in 1931. The organization was formed to promote the profession, and professional interest, of geography, to strengthen student and professional training in geography, and to create a loan fund to further graduate research in the field. The Alpha Theta chapter at Washington State College was founded on January 10, 1950, and went inactive by 1970.

Arrangement
This collection is arranged in a thematic order. The first section contains GTU handbooks, ritual instructions, and Alpha Theta membership certificates. The second section is the records of the Alpha Theta chapter arranged chronologically. The third section contains national records and correspondence, annual national meeting minutes, national officer's reports, and annual newsletters in chronological order. The final section is the Alpha Theta chapter charter.
