Howard Goldfarb was sent to Farragut Naval Training Center as part of the Navy’s V-12 College Training Program. At the base, recruits received refresher courses in math and English, as well as were tested physically and mentally in preparation for college and a possible subsequent Navy career.
Goldfarb discusses life at the Base, the climate, and activities and locations of time spent on ‘Liberties.’ A newspaper clipping from one Liberty is included.

The first letter was written August 15, 1945, the day after Goldfarb arrived at Farragut. The last one was written on September 10, 1945, just after he had received notice he would be attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Some letters are signed as Howard, others Howie. All are addressed to The Goldfarb Family, 2168 Rexwood Rd., Cleveland Hts. (18), Ohio, from H.B. Goldfarb 5 1/c, 285-82-93, Brks 18A21, Section 12, Box 21, U.S.N.T.C. and D.C., Farragut, Idaho
