Historical NoteReturn to Top
The Commission on Freedom of the Press studied the freedom and accountability of the press. It was formed in 1942 by Robert Maynard Hutchins, president and later chancellor of the University of Chicago, with the financial support of Time Magazine founder Henry Luce. Over its history, the commission produced several reports. It was sometimes known as the (Robert) Hutchins Commission. Ruth A. Inglis was on the staff of the commission as research assistant and later was a member of the commission.
