Isaac R. Moores scrapbook , 1864 October 4 - 1885 August 12

Isaac R. Moores Jr. (February 14, 1831 – July 25, 1884) was an Oregon businessman and politician. Moores was born in Danville, Illinois to Isaac Moores senior and Jane Moores. Moores Jr. was the youngest of five children. In 1852 the Moores family came to Portland, Oregon along the Oregon Trail. Moores Jr. moved to Salem in 1854. He worked as a clerk for J.N. McDonald's Mercantile, which he later bought out with his brother John Moores in 1856. Moores Jr. held the position of postmaster of Salem from 1855-1858. He married Ellen R. Lamon in 1856. Isaac and Ellen had seven children. In 1861 Moores Jr. was appointed colonel of the second regiment of the Oregon Volunteer Militia at the onset of the American Civil War. Moores Jr. was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives in 1862 and 1864, serving as Speaker of the House during his second term. Moore Jr. sold his mercantile business in 1866. The same year he was appointed clerk to the State Board of Land Commissioners. Moores Jr. was an incorporator of the Oregon Central Railroad in 1867, and served as its president. He left the State board in 1870 and was appointed to land commissioner to the Oregon and California Railroad. Moores Jr. served in this position until his death in 1884. Moores Jr. was on the Common Council of Salem. He was a member of the Masons, and Odd Fellows. Moores Jr. is buried at the Salem Pioneer Cemetery in Salem, Oregon.
