Biographical Note

Stephen Joseph fostered the revival of traditional jazz in the Puget Sound area.

Joseph was a descendant of the Schwabacher Family of Seattle and California. His mother was Babette(?) Schwabacher Joseph.

Note from KW says the 33 1/3 rpm recordings of the Uptown Lowdown Jazzband which were transferred from this accession to the UW Music Listening Center have text on the album covers written by Stephen Joseph under a pseudonym.
