Historical BackgroundReturn to Top
Josef Scaylea (1913-2004) was a well-known Seattle photographer. After serving as an army photographer during World War II, Scaylea settled in Seattle and was hired by theSeattle Times, spending the next 35 years photographing Northwest landmarks, events and people. He continued as an active photographer after his retirement, making many of his Pacific Northwest images available on the Internet.
