Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Solomon “Sol” Amon (July 16, 1929 - ) is a native Seattleite. His parents were born in Terikadag, Turkey and immigrated to the US in 1911. The family started Pure Food Fish Market in Pike Place, Seattle. Throughout his life, Amon has been active in the Sephardic Jewish community in Seattle. Amon married Matilda “Tillie” and they have two daughters, Helene and Eileen.

Nancy Weingarten and Doris Stiefel interviewed Sol Amon on January 10th, 2017. In the interview Amon discusses his father's emigration from Turkey to Seattle, via New York, and his subsequent involvement in the fish-selling business at Pike Place Market. Amon outlined his participation in his father's business, Pure Food Fish, from his youth to his recent retirement. He also has a detailed description of the development of the fish business at the Market from his father's beginnings, through his tenure, to the current company run by his grandchildren. He also touched on the history of business at the Markey run by the Sephardic community. Amon also discussed growing up in the Central District of Seattle, his education, and his connections with the Sephardic community and Sephardic Bikur Holim.
