Biographical Note
Julia Duckworth Stephen (1846-1895) was the niece and goddaughter of Julia Margaret Cameron and wife of Leslie Stephen. Mother of eight children, including Virginia Woolf and Vanessa Bell, Stephen was a nurse and author.

Content Description
This collection consists of: manuscripts and typed transcriptions of short stories, primarily for children, and essays on domestic life. Includes typed transcriptions with annotations and insertions, which were added to the collection in 2003.

These stories were edited and published in 1987 by Diane F. Gillespie and Elizabeth Steele, in Julia Duckworth Stephen: Stories for Children, Essays for Adults (Syracuse University Press). This collection is described in the editorial note.
