Nelle Tobias (May 11, 1906 – April 30, 2005) was a pioneer environmentalist from McCall, Idaho who played a major role in conservation efforts in Idaho for over fifty years. She graduated from the College of Idaho in 1928 and served as a landscape architect for ten years with the National Park Service before opening Edgewater Cabins on the Payette River in McCall. She was a founding member of the Idaho Conservation League and was involved in nearly every preservation effort in Idaho including the 1964 Wilderness Act and the preservation of Hells Canyon and the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness.

The original order was retained with all of the materials from the 1991 accession.
The papers of Nelle Tobias were in the possession of Nelle Tobias until time of donation.
The papers of Nelle Tobias were donated to the University of Idaho Library by Nelle Tobias in May 1991 (MA 1991-36).
This collection was processed using the Basic processing method. Some materials were refoldered. The collection was reduced by 4.75 cubic feet.
Publications were removed and placed into a separate manuscript group Conservation Reports and Publications (MG 449).
