Biographical Note
David Edwin Tanner was born September 7, 1912 in Grouse Creek, Utah to Allen Newman Tanner and Mary Emily Barlow. He attended a small schoolhouse in Grouse Creek and graduated from Ogden High School and went on to complete an associate's degree in industrial relations from the University of Utah. On November 24, 1939, he married Edna Maw and was sealed in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Manti Temple on June 4, 1940. He and Edna had two children, Lynn and Karen.
Tanner was employed at the Naval Supply Depot at Clearfield, Utah and became the highest-ranking civilian employee. When the Supply Depot closed, he went to work for Hill Air Force Base as a redistribution mManager, where he was recognized for his excellent work and diligence through numerous leadership and distinguished service awards.
During his life, Tanner served in multiple capacities for the LDS Church. He completed a mission in the North States, was a bishop's counselor, a bishop, high councilor, stake president's counselor and a stake president. David E. Tanner died on May 29, 1998 in Logan, Utah at the age of 85.
Content Description
This collection contains the papers David Tanner kept throughout his career as a federal government employee. Box 1 is organized chronologically and separated into two parts with Folders 1-10 housing materials from his employment while at the Naval Supply Depot, which closed in 1962, and Folders 11-21 containing items that reflect his employment as a redistribution manager at Hill Air Force Base. Most of the materials are made up of time books he kept as a foreman, personnel and training documents, newsletters, coursework from a class at University of Utah, his employee records, surplus booklets and photographs.
