Biographical Note
Robert Michael Pyle grew up in Colorado. His scientific interests began early, and he became active in conservation as a student at the University of Washington where he earned a masters degree. He received a PhD from Yale University. Pyle worked in the Sequoia National Park as a ranger/naturalist in 1969. He received a Fulbright Fellowship to work at Mongs Wood Experimental Station, England from 1971-1972. During this period, the Xerces Society was founded. He taught at Catmose College, Rutland, England from 1975-1977. He served as Northwest Land Steward for the Nature Conservancy in Portland, Oregon in 1977, 1980. From 1979 to 1982, Pyle worked at the Species Conservation Monitoring Unit, Cambridge Conservation Centre, Cambridge University. He served on the Washington State Natural Heritage Advisory Board, ca. 1988-1996.

This collection is composed of correspondence, research, and writings by Robert Michael Pyle. Topics include his early life in Colorado, academic work as a student, and his published works.
