Edward McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954), American artist-designer, who had settled in London in 1914; he designed the alternative wolf's-head colophon used on some Hogarth Press publications from 1930 onwards.

A typescript letter signed by Virginia Woolf from Monk's House, dated August 10th. In the letter, Virginia Woolf thanks Kauffer for sending American newspapers. Woolf comments that she thinks the papers "are altogether better than ours, more vulgar, more lively." Letter typed on paper with "Strathdon 4" watermark.
