Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Suzy Harris Rytting began her skiing career in the Salt Lake Deseret New and Telegram Free Ski Program in 1944-45. In 1947, she gained national recognition when she was selected as first alternative for the 1948 United States Olympic ski team. In 1949, she was chosen for the United States Federation International Ski team. This international race took place in March 1950 in Aspen, Colorado. In 1951 she was asked to represent the United States as a member of the United States alpine team in the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo, Norway. However, after arriving in Oslo to participate in the Olympics, Rytting discovered she was pregnant and was subsequently asked to relinquish her position on the team. In the years that followed, Rytting stayed active in ski racing and as a volunteer in various ski organizations. In 1988, she was inducted into the National Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Michigan, and into the Crimson Club at the University of Utah.

The Suzy Harris Rytting papers contain photocopied news clippings and other documents regarding Rytting's competitive skiing career. The collection is arranged in chronological sequence, beginning with documents regarding her ski racing activities in the 1940s, and continuing through 1988 when she was inducted into the University of Utah Crimson Club and the National Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Michigan.
