Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Leondor brothers and Mae Leondor (1875-1959) performed in the Pantages and Orpheum circus circuits, and starred in the Ringling Bros. Circus from 1890-1910. Charles Leondor (originally Charles Landauer) of the Leondor brothers was born in Neustadt Germany, immigrating to America at a young age with his family. Mae Leondor was born on May 11, 1875 in Sterling Illinois. She was a vocalist performer. Charles Leondor and Mae married in the 1890s (reported in different sources as 1894 and 1897). Around the turn of the century they travelled west with the McMann Shows. The Leondor brothers briefly ran a full one-ring circus on East Stark Street in Portland, Oregon with a full troupe of performers. The Leondor brothers were originally acrobats, but are most famous for their "white act" in which they appeared to be made of marble and recreated statue scenes and artwork, sometimes as a duo and sometimes as a trio with Mae. Charles Leondor died in 1911 in Portland, Oregon. Mae Leondor resided in Portland, Oregon after her husband's death. She died in 1959 in Portland, Oregon.
