Victor Shinzo Ogawa (October 1912 - May 25, 1936) worked as a mechanic and then at age 22 he earned his commercial pilot's license. He became the first Japanese American to obtain a pilot's license in the Pacific Northwest. He participated in airshows with well known pilots such as Nat Browne and Frank Whaley. His parents were Sadakichi Ogawa and Yoshi Fujita (Tanaka).
Content DescriptionReturn to Top
Two albums of photographs by Victor Ogawa. One documents a trip to Japan to visit family and sightsee. The other album documents airplanes and aviators, trips in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Ogawa called this album his "Collection book" because several of the photographs were sent to him from friends. The albums are extensively illustrated with drawings. Many people in the Japanese community in Seattle are identified. It also includes a photograph of Herman de Cano, the first Filipino licensed commercial pilot.
