Biographical Note
Herman Anderson was born in Lindsborg, Kansas on June 28, 1891 and grew up on a farm in Mount Vernon, Washington. He attended school in La Conner, Washington and then went on to the University of Washington where he worked his way through school. He played football for the University and was team captain in 1913. He was a four year varsity letter winner and won the Flaherty Inspirational Medal in 1914. In 1916 Anderson joined the Navy and was sent to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He served on the battleship New Mexico and then at the U.S. Naval Unit Camp at the University of Washington where he was an Executive Officer. He went on to establish a successful milk delivery business in south Seattle. Herman died on September 28, 1971.
