A.B. Cordley joined the faculty of Oregon Agricultural College in 1895 as Professor of Zoology and Entomology. He became the first Dean of the School of Agriculture in 1908, a position he held until his retirement in 1931. Cordley worked as an entomologist at Michigan Agricultural College, the Vermont Experiment Station, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture before moving to Oregon. A native of Michigan, Cordley earned his BS degree at Michigan Agricultural College.

The A.B. Cordley Entomological and Horticultural Scrapbook consists of clippings assembled by Cordley pertaining to fruit and crop pests and diseases and their control. Many of the clippings are from the Oregon Agriculturist and Rural Northwest; the scrapbook also includes clippings from the Michigan Farmer and Oregon newspapers. The clippings include reports from farmers throughout the state, summaries and announcements of Cordley's work, information about Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station research, and announcements and reports of meetings of the Oregon State Horticultural Society.
The clippings are affixed into a hardbound 1889 Report of the Connecticut Board of Agriculture and Experiment Stations.

Publications and speeches by Cordley as well as biographical information are available in the Memorabilia Collection (MC-Cordley, A.B.). The Agricultural Experiment Station (RG 025), College of Agricultural Sciences (RG 158), and Entomology Department (RG 027) Records include extensive documentation of Cordley's work as a professor and administrator. The Archives collections also include the Oregon State Horticultural Society Records (RG 151); the papers of many entomologists including Louis G. Gentner, Merton Lane, and John D. Lattin; and the extensive insect photographs in the Ken Gray Photograph Collection (P 256).
