Biographical Note
Carolyn Schactler was born August 23, 1927. In 1949, she earned a BA in music at Washington State University. In the 1970s, she earned an MA at Central Washington State College (CWSC), and completed postgraduate work at the University of Texas and Potchefstroom University in South Africa. In 1976, she joined the faculty of CWSC, where she taught for 28 years. She was the director of the Apparel Design Program and taught students to make garments from start to finish. Schactler belonged to the International Textile and Apparel Association, from whom she won awards for her designs.

This collection contains 13 photographs of Carolyn Schactler's fashion designs.
Historical Background
Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
