Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Washington State Nautical School was located on board the USS Vicksburg on Lake Union. The nautical school was run by the State of Washington with the cooperation and assistance of the federal government. A federal act, passed in 1917, allowed for the establishment of the school which was open to young Washington state residents. The school aimed to train youth in the "science and practice of navigation".
